The American Dream
This girl named Allison, she's 22 and just beginning
To work at the front offices at Chiquita Banana
This guy named Ben, he lived his whole life in Cincinnati
But he sounds like he was born and raised in Greenbow, Alabama
And she said,
"Why don't you sing along when we go out to parties?
'Cause I know I've seen you playing guitar."
And I said, "Sometimes, you gotta reach down inside to start with."
And who knows what tomorrow will bring?
This girl named Julie, she graduated magna cum laude, and she
Decided just to run away and join The Peace Corps.
And I said, "That's okay, you're young and got time to be crazy."
And she smiled and asked me, "Exactly, what's crazy anymore?"
And she said,
"Why don't you sing along when we go out to parties?
'Cause I've heard you play a mean guitar."
And I said, "Sometimes, I admit I need to get kick started."
But who knows what tomorrow will bring?
But the American dream
Less is more, or more or less, whichever way it seems
That the American dream
It takes a while to realize that we are living
The American dream
Thursday night we're running wild, a drunken fascination comes across us both
And then we kiss, and leave the bar more than just friends
And I don't know, well, exactly what I was thinking
But to tell you the truth, I was feeling just a little apprehensive
When she said,
"Why don't you sing along when we go out to parties?
'Cause I know I've seen you playing guitar."
And I said, "Sometimes, I admit I need to get kick started."
And who knows what tomorrow will bring?
But the American dream
Less is more, or more or less, whichever way it seems
That the American dream
It takes a while to realize that we are living
The American dream
People come and people go, but
What matters is you love and you need them
Like the rivers flow, separate ways we'll go
First you love them and never never leave them
People come and people go, but
What matters is you love and you need them
Like the rivers flow, separate ways we'll go
First you love them and never never leave them
It's the American dream
People come and people go, but
What matters is you love and you need them
Like the rivers flow, separate ways we'll go
First you love them and never never leave them
People come and people go, but
What matters is you love and you need them
Like the rivers flow, separate ways we'll go
First you love them and never never leave them
